I could not sleep. I was not worried or stressed
out. I just could not sleep. When this
I take advantage to pray. Sometimes
cuddles me gradually in a sweet slumber.
I read some psalms. I said the rosary.
My brain was as alert as ever.
I remembered I had still some phone
to make. Living on this side of the
while some of my friends live on the
side has its advantages! My night is
day. So I spoke with one, and then
other. Nothing! Wide awake I was. Wide
Then, I remembered! My provincial had
a webpage that for some reason or another
I never found the time to see. I surfed
and discovered it was a page full of
stories, fun pages, Bible quotes and
I liked what I saw and what I read.
I decided to jot down and share a number
of them. Who knows, I said to myself…
this inability to sleep has all been
by a guardian angel who wanted me to
these quotes on PONDERINGS. Perhaps
reading them may be helped… They may
someone out of depression or enrich
spiritually, or who knows?, educate
into joy…. Many times it is the simple
in life that make a difference…
One page was full of teddy bears. The
was Thoughts For Life. It was made
of a series
of remarkable one-liners. They said…
greatest handicap: Fear. The best day:
The easiest thing to do: Find a fault.
most useless asset: Pride. The greatest
The biggest stumbling block: Egotism.
most disagreeable person: The complainer.
The worst bankruptcy: Loss of enthusiasm.
The greatest need: Common sense. The
feeling: Regret at another's success.
best gift: Forgiveness. The greatest
Death. The greatest knowledge: God.
thing in the world: Love
Then on a beautiful background full
this web page spoke of three things
kind: Three things of life that once
never come back: Time, Words and Opportunity.
Three things of life that must not
Peace, Hope and God. Three things of
that are most valuable: Love, Self
and Friends. Three things of life that
never sure: Dreams, Success and Fortune.
Three things that make a man: Hard
Sincerity and Commitment. Three things
life that destroy a man: Wine, Pride
This other page, that gave a simple
of how we spend our lives, may help
of us to put life in perspective. It
that if God were to grant us 70 years
your life... we would spend: 24 years
(well, in my case somewhat less!!),
working, 8 years in amusement, 6 years
table (Chamorro and Carolinians somewhat
more!!), 5 years in transportation,
in conversation, 3 years in education,
years reading or in front of a computer,
3 years watching television AND ….
the punch line: If you went to church
Sunday and prayed 5 minutes every morning
and every night, you would be spending
months of your life directly with God.
Since sleep was far far away, I surfed
to this page full of witty Church signs.
Here are some of them. A church that
problems with outsiders parking in
lot put up this sign: CHURCH CAR PARK
MEMBERS ONLY, TRESPASSERS WILL BE BAPTIZED!
That took care of the problem!
Others were energizing . "No God
Peace? Know God - Know Peace."
Trip to heaven. Details Inside!"
one was exciting: "Searching for
look? Have your faith lifted here!"
A sign at one of the Church's door
picture of two hands holding stone
on which the Ten Commandments were
and a headline that read: "For
fast, fast relief, take two tablets."
This one was ingenious : When the restaurant
next to the Church put out a sign with
red letters that said, "Open Sundays,"
the church reciprocated with its own
"We are open on Sundays, too."
Then there were the 'promotional' signs
truth decay - study the Bible daily."
"Come work for the Lord. The work
hard, the hours are long and the pay
But the retirement benefits are out

is unlikely there'll be a reduction

Going around in circles does not help.
need directions. So these signs… "If
you're headed in the wrong direction,
allows U-turns." "If you
like the way you were born, try being
again." "Running low on faith?
Step in for a fill-up."
Finally my head started becoming heavy.
had to go to bed now. But before switching
the computer, I could not help smiling
this evocative avowal, "Here is
